‘The Worst of Football’ – PSG Superstar Faces Criticism for Performance in Loss to Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain faced a 3-2 loss to FC Barcelona at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie last Wednesday. Despite Kylian Mbappé being a non-factor in the matchup, the game was far from decided, with 90 minutes left to play.

Ousmane Dembélé equalized against his former team in the 48th minute. Shortly after, Vitinha secured a 2-1 advantage for the capital club, which capped off two goals in two minutes. However, that impactful play from the 25-year-old never came, especially after the team went down 3-2.

Former French footballer Christophe Dugarry didn’t hold back when he criticized the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s demeanor during the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Barcelona. He went as far as to say that Mbappé “spat in the face” of the competition.

“What he showed is the worst of football and the worst of a high-level player. You can miss passes, dribbles, and have a bad day, but that boy’s attitude was scandalous—a lack of respect,” Dugarry stated on RMC Sport (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

The former Barcelona player added that Mbappé’s performance was “a betrayal to the fans who were fully behind him, to the people who trust him, to those who pay him, to those who appreciate him, and to a Champions League quarterfinal.”

Mbappé is reportedly leaving PSG after this season, and he probably doesn’t want to have back-to-back disappointing performances in the Champions League as his final memory.
