PSG Standout Acknowledges Barcelona’s Expertise with ‘Small Details’ in First Leg Win

On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 3-2 defeat against FC Barcelona at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie. Nonetheless, one player remains confident that the Parisians can turn the situation around but notes why the capital club is now in this situation.

Raphinha initiated the scoring for Barcelona in the 37th minute of the first half. Following a relatively quiet initial 45 minutes, the second half witnessed a flurry of goals. Ousmane Dembélé equalized against his former team in the 48th minute. Shortly after, Vitinha secured a 2-1 advantage for the capital club to cap off scoring two goals in two minutes.

Nevertheless, Barcelona swiftly retaliated. Raphinha netted his second goal in the 62nd minute, leveling the score at 2-2. Subsequently, Andreas Christensen executed a header 15 minutes later, propelling Barcelona to a 3-2 lead with two consecutive unanswered goals.

Despite the result, Lucas Hernandez assured that the team is more than capable of overturning the situation. The team did it during the match, but they have to pay attention to the small details that can cost any team in the second leg.

“This is a match where we knew it would be decided by small details—we knew it from the beginning—and unfortunately, in the second half, we started well, turned the game around, and then unfortunately… especially that third goal from Barcelona off a corner, it’s a situation that shouldn’t happen,” Hernandez told PSG TV (h/t Canal Supporters).

“Now all we have left is to go to Barcelona to turn the situation around. These are the matches, the Champions League quarterfinals, where it’s decided by small details. And today, they were on the other side. They exploited their chances well. Now it’s up to us to overturn this situation and go to Barcelona to qualify. We have the team to turn this around.”
