Kylian Mbappé will reportedly leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer when his contract expires. Many expect the Frenchman to join Real Madrid as a free agent. Nonetheless, a report on Saturday reveals broken promises that led to the move.
Last summer, Mbappé trained with undesirable players when the squad went on its tour to Japan and South Korea. The relationship seemed strained after the 25-year-old informed the club that he had no plans to exercise the option to extend his contract.
Still, after the summer drama, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner returned to the team following the departure of Neymar Jr. to Al-Hilal. However, Foot Mercato Santi Aouna reports that the reason why Mbappé was reinstated is now due to a broken promise.
According to the French media outlet, on August 12, 2023, the day before the match against Lorient, Mbappé assured club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi that he would extend his contract with PSG, facilitating his return to the first team. Mbappé reiterated his intention to extend his contract multiple times to Al-Khelaïfi.
