Many expect Real Madrid to land Kylian Mbappé this summer transfer window when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires. The Frenchman will become a free agent in June and so there’s speculation about his future.
Should the 25-year-old sign with the La Liga team, the question surrounding his arrival is what role he will have. The forward isn’t keen on the No. 9 role, which led to the “#pivotgang” drama in 2022.
However, one journalist believes that if Mbappé does sign with Real Madrid, he’ll have to forgo his preferred left-wing position and play the striker position. The Spanish giants already have Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo, who can fill that role on the team.
Despite this concern, Diario AS reports that Mbappé will not only accept the role of center forward obediently in most of the matches he plays for his childhood dream team, but he has also confided in his closest circle that “the challenge of playing there appeals to me.”
Mbappé’s explanation to his inner circle is straightforward. Playing as a No. 9 in a team alongside Vinicius, Rodrygo, Bellingham, and Brahim Díaz, supplying him with balls in the box, would make it very easy for him to boost his goal tally.
As a striker, he’d have a high chance of clinching the Golden Boot, and in that scenario, his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, his ultimate individual dream once his move to Real Madrid is sealed, would be nearly assured.
“Kylian knows that being at Madrid will make it much easier for him to win the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or,” sources close to the PSG superstar told the Spanish media outlet. “And if he also wins the Golden Boot, even better for him. Playing as a No. 9 at Real Madrid, he can fill his boots with goals.”
