Why PSG’s Acquisition of €50M-Rated Talent from Chelsea is Complex, per Expert

This summer, Paris Saint-Germain will focus on strengthening its defense, and numerous potential recruits are associated with the French giants.

English players are willing to depart the Premier League in recent transfer windows. However, one target the capital club has set its sights on could be a particularly challenging acquisition.

Chelsea’s versatile defender Levi Colwill has recently been linked to the Parsians. With the Blues not playing in European football next season, CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Johnson believes the Premier League side will need to make sacrifices. Still, he notes that luring him away is difficult.

“I think given the recent developments with Chelsea in the league and losing routes to Europe via the domestic cup, I think that Chelsea will probably have to make some sacrifices,” Johnson told PSG Talk in an exclusive interview. “I don’t know if Colwill will be one of them. I think there are a number of peripheral figures in that defense who will probably have to find their future elsewhere…

“I think Colwill’s versatility counts in his favor, so Chelsea will probably be a bit more reluctant to let him go immediately. But also, at the same time, there might be an element of Chelsea not being allowed to be too fussy and having to consider any reasonable offers which are put forward.”

Colwill, under contract until 2029, can play center-back and left-back positions. According to Transfermarkt, his transfer value is estimated at €50 million, indicating that a substantial sum would be required to tempt him away from Stamford Bridge.

However, an even higher offer might be needed to secure his transfer this summer, even with the current situation at Chelsea.
