PSG Withdraws Interest in €80M Barcelona Star Amid Financial Fair Play Concerns

Paris Saint-Germain aim to bolster its midfield this summer as the Ligue 1 side look to build a team in the post-Kylian Mbappé era. Over the last few months, various names, including Frenkie de Jong, have been linked to the French giants.

The FC Barcelona standout has admirers in PSG’s management, who see him as a top player to reinforce the midfield. Additionally, the Dutchman’s agent and the Catalan side are aware of the Parisians’ interest in the midfielder.

However, the circumstances surrounding Luis Enrique‘s squad have shifted. SPORT reported on Saturday that PSG are dropping any attempt to negotiate a possible transfer for the 26-year-old after this season.

According to the Spanish media outlet, PSG are also fighting a deep battle to balance its books. The capital club prioritizes reducing the team’s costs and aligning its budget to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations.

Furthermore, the report reveals that Mbappé’s departure will help. However, addressing Luis Enrique‘s array of needs will still be challenging. SPORT notes that PSG are focusing all its efforts on signing Victor Osimhen as Mbappé’s replacement.

This is a high-cost operation considering that Napoli is seizing the opportunity to demand the €120 million they have been asking for months. Securing Osimhen is a top priority and will dictate the course of incoming and outgoing transfers.

Until the exact cost of the transfer is known, PSG is trying to lower the operation’s expenses through player exchanges.

Once the Financial Fair Play margin is set, there won’t be any more big moves in the transfer market. De Jong falls into that category, especially since Barcelona wouldn’t entertain the idea of him leaving for less than €80 million.
