Neymar Jr. and Thiago Silva were key parts of Paris Saint-Germain’s success in the Qatar Sports Investment era. However, the capital club opted to move on from both in recent years, which were decisions that affected captain Marquinhos.
Silva left PSG in 2020 after the Parisians reached the UEFA Champions League once football resumed following the breakout of Covid-19. The veteran defender signed with Chelsea and showed that he could still play at a high level.
As for Neymar, his departure came last summer as the Ligue 1 side opted to move away from players and shift away from the big-name players. The French giants wanted to build a team regardless of their marketable status, so the forward left and is currently with Al-Hilal.
In an interview with Le Parisien (h/t Le10Sport), Marquinhos’ older brother, Luan Aoas Correa, revealed who the Parisian captain’s friends were at the club and how their exit from the club affected the player.
“At PSG, I think they were Thiago Silva and Neymar [Marquinhos’ best friends],” Correa told the French media outlet. “When they left, Marqui was very sad. I remember they spoke with Thiago before the final against Bayern Munich. Thiago told him: ‘Let’s enjoy because it’s our last match together!'”
