Kylian Mbappé will reportedly leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer when his contract expires. Many expect the Frenchman to join Real Madrid, but could the forward have gone to the Premier League?
Since Mbappé opted to depart his hometown as a free agent, some will ask why the 25-year-old didn’t consider a move to the Premier League. Journalist Romain Molina recently stated his surprise at the lack of a bidding war for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
“Why aren’t there more clubs on him? Why don’t the English go there? Because at one point, there were crazy, unrealistic demands,” Molina said (h/t Le10Sport). “Internally, it is said that Mbappé is ‘Frankenstein;’ he has escaped the control of his master.”
According to a recent report from L’Equipe, the decision to leave is clearly having a ripple effect at the club. The French media outlet notes that the conclusion of the transfer saga has been hard to accept, especially for PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
L’Equipe adds that Al-Khelaïfi granted everything the 2022 FIFA World Cup runner-up wanted for the past two years, including bringing in sporting advisor Luis Campos.
Nonetheless, with all the drama that’s gone on over the last few weeks, it’s ideal for PSG to close this chapter and begin a new phase.
