Real Madrid will have a potent attack next season with the potential arrival of Kylian Mbappé. However, one La Liga player is warning that the attacking prowess won’t meet the success many will expect.
Mbappé will join Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham to create an attacking lineup that will attract attention from the football media. However, there’s uncertainty about the future of the two Brazilians, given that they primarily play as wingers.
In an interview with Spanish media outlet Diario AS, Celta de Vigo’s Iago Aspas warned that Paris Saint-Germain did this with Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar Jr., which didn’t work for the French giants.
“On paper, it’s very easy to say that Real Madrid will dominate with Mbappé, but that has to be demonstrated on the pitch,” Aspas told AS (h/t Bernabeu Digital). “Similarly, PSG was expected to be a powerhouse with Messi and Neymar, but they didn’t win the Champions League in any year.”
For two seasons, PSG boasted an attacking trio that captured the attention of many in the football world. However, despite high expectations, this didn’t translate into the international success many anticipated.
The team suffered consecutive exits in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. With Messi and Neymar gone, PSG reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 2021, so it will be interesting to see how Real Madrid’s attack fares.
PSG did it with Messi and Neymar towards the end of their career.
