Kylian Mbappé is reportedly on his way to signing with Real Madrid once his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires in June. Although many are excited about the Spanish giant’s attack, one expert says one player’s production could dip.
Mbappé will bring his goal-scoring prowess to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, though there are some downsides to consider. One downside is that Jude Bellingham’s offensive performance might suffer next season.
During his conversation with PSG Talk, CBS Sports journalist Jonathan Johnson pointed out that it’s difficult to envision Bellingham maintaining his influence in the attack for the upcoming season.
“If you look at what Bellingham’s been capable of this season when he’s being required to step up and help to fill that void [that] is missing at the moment, with no obvious focal point of the attack, it’s going to be difficult for Bellingham to maintain [that] kind of level of productivity in terms of goal scored [and] assists provided once you bring in somebody like an Mbappé,” Johnson said.
“So it’ll be interesting to see the impact that Mbappé potentially has on Real Madrid’s starting eleven.”
Bellingham’s sacrifice on offense might be one of the conditions certain players at Real Madrid must make when the Frenchman arrives. Nonetheless, perhaps it’s a part of Bellingham’s game that he will give up playing alongside Mbappé.
Next season will reveal how these players come together, highlighting who may need to make sacrifices or potentially experience a reduced role.
