A few days ago, a report surfaced that Kylian Mbappé would be willing to skip the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana reports that the 25-year-old still has the intention of playing in the summer games.
Mbappé is reportedly heading to Real Madrid once his contract with the Parisians expires. Recently, the Spanish giants confirmed to the French Football Federation that they would not give up Eduardo Camavinga or Ferland Mendy for the Olympics.
However, the Spanish team did not say anything about Aurélien Tchouaméni, and the case with Mbappé isn’t official until he signs. Nonetheless, Cortegana appeared on Rubén Martín’s Twitch channel and noted that those within Real Madrid have told him that the Frenchman wants to play in the Olympics.
“At Real Madrid, they told me a few days ago that Mbappé wants to play in the Olympics, but it’s not certain,” Cortegana (h/t Bernabéu Digital) said. “What I gather from this is that the player has asked to join Los Blancos, but it’s not definite.
It will be interesting to see if this becomes a major sticking point for Mbappé and his camp or whether both parties can find common ground to reach a solution that allows the PSG star to play in the Olympics.
