For the past two years, rumors have linked Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford to a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the speculation, a transfer to the French capital has never materialized.
It’s not often that English players from top Premier League clubs decide to venture abroad, but it happened last year when Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur to join Bayern Munich.
So, where did these rumors originate from? French football journalist Julien Laurens revealed that Rashford’s connection to PSG originated from his friendship with Kylian Mbappé.
According to Laurens, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner proposed Rashford’s arrival at the Parc des Princes. However, his impending exit will eliminate any chance of a future link-up at club level.
“Rashford is not there [on the list],” Laurens told talkSPORT. “He might be there; remember last summer and the summer before his brother met with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG chairman, but that was more to please Mbappé because he wanted to play with Rashford, they are good friends.
“Now that Kylian is leaving, I’m not so sure how relevant the Rashford link is.”
Furthermore, with Mbappé reportedly leaving after his contract expires in June, Rashford isn’t on PSG’s radar to replace the outgoing Frenchman. As a result, these rumors linking the Manchester United forward to PSG should be fizzling out.
