PSG Set Sights on Barcelona’s ‘Untouchable’ Midfielder to Strengthen Squad

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly prioritizes strengthening its midfield this summer. Over recent months, numerous names have emerged. Among them, FC Barcelona’s Gavi stands as a potential target for the Parisians.

Last month, The Athletic reported PSG’s interest in Gavi as a potential summer transfer. Moreover, Luis Enrique and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi admire the player, adding a layer of seriousness to the information.

Furthermore, the reporting reveals Barcelona considers Gavi an invaluable asset, but the club’s financial challenges add complexity. Journalist Ben Jacobs provided an update on whether pursuing the Spanish player is a reality.

“PSG is currently not following De Jong,” Jacobs noted for CaughtOffside (h/t Le10Sport). “In fact, it’s another FC Barcelona player that PSG would ideally want: Gavi.

“It would be a bold move given that Barcelona see Gavi as a future captain and almost an untouchable player. And the French champions clearly have no intention of paying Gavi’s release clause of one billion euros.”

Observing their strategic choices for the squad as they navigate the post-Kylian Mbappé era will be intriguing. Leveraging Barcelona’s financial situation, PSG has acquired two players from the Spanish side previously and may secure a third.

The Parisians will have money to spend this summer and could be in on a few high-profile players if the opportunity presents itself.
