PSG Loanee Recalls Facing Real Madrid in 2021 Ahead of Champions League Clash

RB Leipzig will travel to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium for their second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash on Wednesday, down 1-0 on aggregate.

Xavi Simons was on the PSG squad that lost to the Spanish club in 2021 after holding a 1-0 lead heading into the second leg. The 20-year-old recalled that experience and probably notes that anything is possible even though the German side is down.

“I remember it was a very big game,” Simons said. “We traveled there leading 1-0 in the first leg, but then Real Madrid turned it around with three goals.”

Leipzig is riding positive momentum into the match against Los Blancos after defeating VfL Bochum 4-1 this past weekend. The Dutchman has appeared in 33 games across all competitions for the Bundesliga side, scoring eight goals and registering 12 assists.

It will be interesting to see if the PSG loanee and Leipzig can shock the football world and turn around their deficit on the road. If they plan on doing the impossible, Simons must have one of the best games of his young career.
