Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães name remains in the rumor mill despite signing a contract extension last year. Paris Saint-Germain have an interest in the Brazilian and might make a move for him this summer window.
On Friday, Le Parisien reported that manager Luis Enrique wants a new defensive midfielder this summer with good recovery and passing skills, which he considers Manuel Ugarte lacks.
As a result, Guimarães is on the list of players that PSG could pursue in a few months to bolster their midfield. However, the 26-year-old continues to be happy at Newcastle while speaking to reporters ahead of England’s clash with Brazil.
“It’s always been my dream to play here,” Guimarães told reporters (h/t GOAL). “I’ve always followed the Premier League, it was always my dream to be here. I think ever since I joined Newcastle everything’s been good in my life, professionally and personally.
“I’m very happy to be playing amongst the best in the best league in the world. I absolutely plan to play here for a long time, but I have other goals as well of moving. But this is something more down the line, I’m really happy to be here in the league.”
PSG sporting advisor Luís Campos had already contacted Guimarães’ representatives in January. It was during the winter transfer window that the former Olympique Lyonnais player’s name began to be linked to PSG.
Rumors swirl that the Magpies need to sell one of their best players this summer as they strive to remain compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. As a result, the Parisians could be ready to swoop in for Guimarães.
