Liverpool Receives Transfer Boost for €70M PSG Target, per Fabrizio Romano

This summer, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to strengthen their midfield, and several potential targets have emerged in recent months. One of the latest names being considered by the club is Alan Varela from FC Porto.

Over the last couple of days, the capital club has heavily seen their name in connection to the Argentine player. However, they’re not alone, as Liverpool are among the European clubs vying to land the player.

According to a recent report, the Portuguese side wants any interested club to pay the €70 million release clause. Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano weighed in on the situation through his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside. Romano notes that a move to the Premier League would be ideal for Varela.

“Several European top clubs were in attendance at the Emirates Stadium for Tuesday’s game between Arsenal and Porto to keep close eye on Alan Varela,” Romano noted. “The Argentine midfielder is understood to be on the list of many clubs from the Premier League and elsewhere.”

“Varela looks a fine young talent and could be an interesting option as he has a release clause worth around €70m. That will be Porto’s asking price for any sale this summer, so let’s see if anyone’s ready to pay it, but for sure, many clubs appreciate him in England and in other countries.”

“I like what I’ve seen of Varela and think the Premier League could be a credible option for him – he has what it takes to be a success there, so let’s see what happens in the next months.”

If Liverpool can secure the player, it would be another addition to their new-look midfield. Last summer, the Premier League team underwent a total makeover in that position with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai.
