Paris Saint-Germain stands among the clubs competing for the signature of FC Porto’s Argentinian midfielder, Alan Varela. A recent report put them in the race alongside Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
Nonetheless, it appears the Reds want to pull ahead in their pursuit of the Porto star. TEAMtalk reported on Thursday, citing sources, that Varela is a key target for Liverpool as they aim to strengthen their midfield options.
Last summer, the midfield of the Premier League team underwent a total makeover with the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool remains eager to acquire another central midfielder, with Varela being one of the names considered for their shortlist. Varela’s contract includes a release clause of £60 million, which the English side would probably need to meet if they intend to sign him this summer.
It’ll be intriguing to watch whether the Parisians outdo another Premier League club for a South American midfielder, much like last year when PSG secured Manuel Ugarte after prevailing over Chelsea.
