This summer, Paris Saint-Germain is actively considering strengthening their defense, with recent links connecting the capital club to Chelsea’s Levi Colwill. However, French football expert Jonathan Johnson doesn’t see the young defender as PSG’s top target.
Marquinhos’ form and fitness raise concerns, while Presnel Kimpembe’s condition post-injury remains uncertain. Milan Skriniar, once a market opportunity, isn’t getting any younger.
Nonetheless, in his column for CaughtOffisde, Johnson notes that LOSC Lille’s Leny Yoro is the top target for PSG to improve their defense this summer.
“The former Brighton defender is a player PSG have ear-marked as a potential transfer target in defense, but he’s probably more of an alternative at the moment to the one they have made their priority, and that’s Leny Yoro,” Johnson wrote in his column.
“The young Lille center-back is the outstanding candidate for PSG – he is the player PSG absolutely wants to be able to bring in this summer’s transfer window. He’s also keen to join PSG and further his career with them. He also has the added bonus of being French and from the Paris region, so it’s a good fit for where the PSG project is going. Colwill is someone PSG will look to and explore in case they can’t sign Yoro…”
Yoro is arguably one of the best young defenders in football, and the Parisians want to ensure he doesn’t leave Ligue 1. According to a recent report from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Luis Campos, PSG’s sporting advisor, consistently prioritizes Yoro.
With a contract expiring in 2025, the Lille defender has top clubs vying for him, led by Real Madrid. A summer transfer is probable, as the player’s camp hasn’t agreed to Lille’s contract extension offer.
