Barcelona Unlikely to Secure Top-Level Manager Amid Luis Enrique Rumors, Expert Says

FC Barcelona will seek a new manager this summer following Xavi Hernandez’s departure from the Catalan side. Several names, including Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, have emerged as potential replacements in recent weeks.

Despite being in his first season, the 53-year-old has guided PSG into the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. As a result, Barcelona likely sees that he can still manage at a club where the demand is high.

Enrique won the 2015 Champions League with Barcelona, and it seems they want to recreate that era again. Nonetheless, CBS Sports journalist Jonathan Johnson recently spoke with PSG Talk, and he doesn’t see Enrique leaving for Spain.

“I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t really put much stock in the Barcelona rumors,” Johnson said. “Yes, we know what Barcelona have been in the past. We also know what Barcelona are right now. And to be honest with you, I don’t think it makes a lot of sense for any really serious managerial candidate to be looking at the Barcelona position.

“But for me, I would be really surprised to see a really sort of serious, top-level, elite tactician to go there at this moment in time, given the issues that have been there.”

A recent report from SPORT informs that the Spanish tactician has no plans to depart the French capital for the upcoming season. The club expresses satisfaction with his performance, and he reciprocates the sentiment.

Enrique appears ready to build off this season and continue implementing his style at PSG.
