Barcelona Chief Hints Interest in Luis Enrique for Coaching Role

FC Barcelona will be searching for a new manager this summer as Xavi Hernandez intends to leave his role at the end of the season. One of the rumored targets is Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Enrique, and an executive for the Spanish club touched on the speculation.

PSG has performed well under Enrique, and the capital club can potentially win the treble this season. The Parisians are atop Ligue 1, in the semifinals of the Coupe de France, and in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

With Enrique’s success so far, it comes as no surprise that his name is in the rumor mill for Barcelona’s job. Furthermore, the club’s sporting director, Deco, commented on Enrique potentially returning for a second stint with the Catalan side.

“Nothing has been decided yet,” Deco told Cadena SER (h/t Sport.fr). “We are attentive and haven’t proposed anything to any coach. Of course, I appreciate Luis Enrique. He’s a coach I haven’t had the opportunity to work with, but it’s undeniable that he’s a reference at all levels. He’s a coach of very high level.”

Barcelona will get a first-hand look at Enrique and PSG when the two squads clash in the quarterfinals. If the Ligue 1 side advances, that will only fuel the supporters’ voice to have the 53-year-old back on their sidelines.
