Kylian Mbappé is reportedly on his way to Real Madrid once the 25-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June. A report from a Spanish media outlet unveiled one key reason the Frenchman is leaving his hometown club.

As per MARCA (h/t Le10Sport), PSG has decided that no individual should hold a position higher than the club, drawing from their past experiences with Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi.

The leaders in Paris were also hesitant to grant Mbappé excessive influence within the Rouge-et-Bleu. Such a move would likely have resulted in the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s departure at the end of the season.

Mbappé has already found himself in a small controversy since these reports surfaced after manager Luis Enrique took the Frenchman out of the contest in the 65th minute during the match against Stade Rennais.

Furthermore, the winger drew the ire of some PSG supporters after throwing the captain’s armband to Vitinha to have it placed on Danilo Pereira. Usually, the outgoing captain will put the armband on the player leading the team for the rest of the contest.

Nonetheless, this is one example of the club putting itself ahead of a superstar like Mbappé.
