Barcelona’s Deco Clarifies Frenkie de Jong Rumors Amid PSG Interest

Paris Saint-Germain could continue bolstering their midfield this summer transfer window. One of the targets that the Ligue 1 giants could pursue is FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, whose name is in the rumor mill.

According to recent updates from SPORT, PSG has expressed interest in acquiring de Jong, with reports indicating they are prepared to offer €60 million for his services.

However, de Jong and manager Xavi Hernandez refuted the reports on Tuesday. The recent rumors also caused an explosive outburst from the Dutchman toward the Spanish media.

Barcelona sporting director Deco joined the two in refuting reports that the 26-year-old is available. The club chief fully supported the Dutch footballer’s position and recalled that he is essential.

“Frenkie is human,” Deco said (h/t SPORT). “Things are said that are not true… He was upset with things, but what is important is that he is happy to be in the club. We are also happy because he is a very important footballer.”

The Athletic recently published an article listing players the Ligue 1 team should target for the post-Mbappé era, highlighting how the former Ajax player could seamlessly integrate into manager Luis Enrique’s tactical framework.
