What Luis Enrique Thinks About Potential PSG Moves in January

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique spoke to the French media on Saturday ahead of the Coupe de France Round of 64 match against US Revel on Sunday.

The Spanish tactician touched on various subjects, including the winter transfer window. With the opportunity to improve the squad for the second half of the 2023-24 season, Enrique is open to seeing his team improve.

“The transfer window ends on the 31st, and it is the 6th,” Enrique told the media (h/t Paris Fans). “The club and the staff are always ready to improve the squad if there is an opportunity. I have already said it. But I have a very high-level team with a lot of players. Those who play more are happy but must not relax. Those who have played less will have opportunities.

“I want to improve my team and each player individually, even though I know it’s impossible. There are always players who play less, but the objective is to motivate them all.”

PSG has already added Lucas Beraldo for depth on their backline, and there are reports that the capital club is keen on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães. However, pursuing the Brazilian is a more challenging file.

Reports suggest that Enrique wants the player, but sporting advisor Luis Campos deems paying the release clause excessive. Guimarães possesses a release clause amounting to €115 million, suggesting that PSG might have to trigger it to land the midfielder.

Nonetheless, the Brazilian is willing to leave the Premier League team next summer. Newcastle refuses to negotiate below the specified release clause, especially amidst the winter transfer window.
