Paris Saint-Germain faces the possibility that these next few months will be the last for Kylian Mbappé in his hometown. The 25-year-old’s contract expires in June, and he can sign a pre-contract.
If the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner does say goodbye to the Parisians later this summer, what’s next for PSG? Well, RMC Sport pundit Jérôme Rothen believes the capital club will need multiple players to replace the Frenchman, as there’s no mega superstar that PSG can land.
“PSG wants to know as quickly as possible about Mbappé’s decision to initiate recruitment to try to replace Kylian,” Rothen said on RMC Sport (h/t Le10Sport). “You don’t replace him with a player. Today, all the megastars in Europe are taken. It’s impossible to replace Kylian Mbappé with Haaland. Impossible. We have to stop dreaming.
“You will replace Kylian with a different player profile, but we will have to take at least two to try to compensate for his departure. Of course, the sooner, the better; PSG is right, for a while, to put particular pressure on because they cannot wait until May.”
The Ligue 1 giants are gearing up to offer a substantial salary to retain the player. In a recent appearance on RMC Sport, Stéphane Guy unveiled PSG’s impressive salary proposal.
Guy emphasized that the Parisians’ offer outshines any competing club interested in securing the services of the 25-year-old. Paris might have some doubts about Mbappé’s extension, but it’s important to highlight that PSG’s new contract offer surpasses the current salary that Real Madrid can offer.
Could an outstanding salary and a project built around him be enough for the winger to stay? Only time will tell.
