Karim Benzema wants out less than a year after arriving in Saudi Arabia to join Al-Ittihad. The former Real Madrid star signed a contract until 2025, with an option to stay until 2026.
Benzema earns a salary of €100 million per season and a €20 million bonus for serving as an ambassador for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, awarded to Saudi Arabia after he signed his deal.
Reports indicate that the Frenchman expresses dissatisfaction with life in the Saudi Pro League and, like Jordan Henderson, seems prepared to terminate his contract to facilitate a return to Europe.
Nonetheless, with the striker wanting out, speculation has linked Benzema to PSG. However, former PSG goalkeeper Jérôme Alonzo believes the capital club should avoid returning to their old ways of bringing big-name players.
“You have balance in attack; you have balance in the locker room,” Alonzo said on L’EQUIPE de Greg (h/t Le10Sport). “I’m not convinced that the arrival of Benzema would be perfect for the balance of this locker room.
“And what’s more, the player asks many questions physically. In my opinion, you shouldn’t touch anything. Kolo Muani is not a starter but can do very badly as a substitute.”
Regardless of whether Benzema wants to depart already, transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano believes that the former Olympique Lyonnais player won’t be leaving the Saudi side in January.
