Paris Saint-Germain supporters won’t be the only ones hoping that Kylian Mbappé rejects Real Madrid. RMC Sport pundit Jérôme Rothen explained why Ligue 1 is also rooting for the 25-year-old to stay.
Rothen notes that the league is entering its latest round of television talks, including the United States market. If Mbappé decides to remain with the Parisians, it will make it easier for the league to secure a quality deal domestically and abroad.
However, the other side of this saga is that he could leave for Real Madrid this year, which puts Ligue 1 in a challenging negotiation situation.
As a result, Rothen notes that the Ligue de Football Professionnel president, Vincent Labrune, needs to wrap up an agreement before the Frenchman makes his decision.
“The rights must be sold as quickly as possible,” Rothen said (h/t Le10Sport). “In the spring, we will know if Mbappé stays or not. And if he leaves and the rights have not been recorded, that is terrible news. Mbappé attracts a lot of viewers. We cannot say that Mbappé does not bring something sensational to Ligue 1.
“We often talk about the five championships in Europe. But it is problematic with the spectacle this year, the departure of Mbappé, and the problems of certain clubs. It all depends on Mbappé.”
ESPN stated on Thursday that Real Madrid’s latest contract proposal is less lucrative than previous ones. However, alternative sources have indicated that despite the reduction, the offer would still position the player as the highest-paid member of the club.
Real Madrid’s current offer entails a lower salary than in previous negotiations. The club is cautious about offering a substantially higher wage than established players like Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham earn.
