The Kylian Mbappé transfer saga continues to unfold as we approach the final days of the January transfer window. In recent weeks, opinions have emerged regarding the potential outcome of the situation.
Journalists and pundits have weighed in on the saga, and now it’s time to hear the perspective of a football agent. Spanish media outlet Diario AS (h/t Le10Sport) spoke with an anonymous agent, who provided his thoughts on where Mbappé will continue his career.
The agent cited taxes as one enticing reason Mbappé could stay in the French capital since the PSG forward pays part of his taxes in Qatar. Furthermore, the agent believes Real Madrid will be more keen on Manchester City’s Erling Haaland since he fits their needs for a No. 9.
“He will stay,” the agent told the platform. “To leave, he would have to give up half of his current salary, which amounts to about 100 million euros. That’s too much money. Furthermore, in Qatar, where he earns a large portion of this sum, he hardly pays any taxes.
“The taxes he has to pay there are generally around 3 percent, but they really do what the emir says because there is no tax regulation. Additionally, I think Madrid is already interested in Haaland because they consider him more necessary and believe he would adapt better to the team.”
On Thursday, ESPN reported that Real Madrid’s recent contract offer falls below previous ones. However, other sources affirmed that the offer would still position him as the highest earner at the club.
