Gabriel Moscardo Explains Decision to Join PSG, Marquinhos Impact

Paris Saint-Germain officially announced Gabriel Moscardo’s transfer from Corinthians to the French capital. The 18-year-old discussed his new career chapter in an interview with PSG’s official website on Thursday.

One of the questions Moscardo answered was about his decision to join the French giants. The midfielder probably had other options to make the jump to Europe. However, he noted that the amount of young talent on the squad attracted him to the project.

“As soon as I heard about the interest from Paris and the project they presented, I was very enthusiastic and focused 100 percent on Paris Saint-Germain,” Moscardo told the website (h/t Paris Fans). “I am very excited because it is a project with young players, so I am eager to join the team and get to know the players, and I am sure that the goal will be to win many trophies.”

Furthermore, Moscardo touched on PSG’s connection with Brazilians over the years. Then, there’s having Marquinhos as captain and someone who could help him adapt to a new country and city.

“Of course,” Moscardo added. “As soon as I learned about Paris Saint-Germain’s interest, I thought of Marquinhos. It was undoubtedly a factor in my choice. He has been here for a long time. He knows the team and the city well. The fact of having Marquinhos as a Brazilian and as the team captain will certainly help me adapt to the club and the language.”

Moscardo has to recover from his foot surgery, as the injury delayed the transfer announcement. It will be interesting to see if PSG decides to give him playing time at the end of the 2023-24 season or if the club decides to wait until the next campaign to allow him to start his tenure fresh.
