Transfer Rumors: Latest on Bayer Leverkusen’s Pursuit of Marco Asensio

Marco Asensio began his Paris Saint-Germain tenure on a positive note before dealing with an injury. Now, the Spanish international likely wants to find that form again, and he’s going in the right direction after scoring in the 2-2 draw against Stade Brestois on Sunday.

Nonetheless, on Monday, reports surfaced that Asensio could be leaving the French capital less than a year after signing on a free transfer.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Bayer Leverkusen is exploring a move for Asensio this January. Talks have taken place, but a deal remains difficult. Xabi Alonso managed Leverkusen, and there comes the Spanish connection.

Furthermore, Leverkusen likely wants to bolster its squad to win the Bundesliga. They’re currently in first place ahead of Bayern Munich, and the race to win the league seems to be between them. Leverkusen probably wants to add more to their attack.

Nonetheless, Sports Zone debunked that report, stating that Asensio does not want to leave PSG despite Bayer Leverkusen’s interest. So, unless an offer knocks them off their feet, the former Real Madrid player will likely stay.
