Barcelona Faces Tough Challenge in Pursuit of Luis Enrique for Managerial Role

FC Barcelona will be looking for a manager this summer, as Xavi Hernandez announced that he’d leave the Spanish club after this 2023-24 season. As a result, various names will surface in the coming months; one of the earliest is Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique.

Enrique already had a successful stint with the Catalan side, coaching the senior team from 2014 to 2017. Nonetheless, would the 53-year-old be open to coaching Barcelona again?

On Sunday, SPORT’s Jordi Gil reported that Enrique is the coach that Barcelona players would most like as Xavi’s replacement for next season; the La Liga side’s locker room wants the former Spanish national team coach.

However, Enrique’s move to Barcelona is almost impossible as he is under contract with PSG, and it’s unlikely that PSG would let him go. Enrique is in his first season with the Parisians after taking the job this past summer after signing a two-year contract to begin this new project.

The Ligue 1 team aims to undertake a project akin to Manchester City’s under Pep Guardiola or Liverpool’s with Jürgen Klopp. It remains to be seen if Enrique opts against a reunion with Barcelona, which adds an intriguing dimension to the scenario.
