Renato Sanches’ time with AS Roma could end before the 2023-24 season concludes. The midfielder left for Italy this past summer to regain his past form with Lille OSC ahead of the 2024 UEFA Euro.
However, it’s been a nightmare situation for Sanches. A recent report revealed that the Serie A side informed PSG that it intended to terminate Sanches’ loan. Tiago Pinto, Roma’s sporting director, spoke with DAZN about the current situation regarding Sanches.
“He has always been my protégé and will always be,” Pinto said (h/t Foot Mercato). “I don’t care about the end of the story. When he arrived, we were all aware of his limits. I think we did a good job of enabling Renato to be at his best.
“But obviously, when the market opens, and players and teams have different expectations, everything must be evaluated. I have always tried to take responsibility for Renato Sanches from the first to the last day. I am here, and I am used to it.”
The Ligue 1 side is open to terminating the loan deal when the January transfer window opens. Nevertheless, it is essential for Sanches’ agent, Jorge Mendes, to actively seek and secure a new club for his client before the French giants give the green light to terminate the loan.
It’s hard to see Sanches playing with PSG again since it’s an already crowded midfield. As a result, if his agent cannot find another club and he returns to Paris, the midfielder will likely not be playing this second half of the season.
