Real Madrid winger Rodrygo appears to be the odd man out in the Spanish club’s reported pursuit of Kylian Mbappé. However, could the Brazilian’s recent form be enough to hold onto the starting role on the left wing?
The La Liga side should know by now that Mbappé has no desire to be the No. 9. Furthermore, he prefers to play on the left wing, where they already have Vinicius Jr., and now Rodrygo appears to be shining.
Can Rodrygo hold onto the left-wing role?
Still, Los Blancos can flip the Brazilian to the left side, although that’s where the problem lies. Spanish media outlet AS recently wrote that Rodrygo has solidified his role for now.
“When Vinicius returns, the debate will be served, especially if Rodrygo continues to show that his best performance appears on the left wing,” AS Manu de Juan wrote. “Vini is a much more specific footballer, made for that position and with little versatility to play at other points of the attacking front. The same does not happen to Rodrygo, who has the ability to be more versatile.
“However, he himself has made it clear that he does not want to play as a forward and that his best position is midfielder, a position that right now is more than occupied by Jude Bellingham. For now, the far left is his, but Vinicius appears on the near horizon and on a somewhat more distant horizon, a certain Mbappé.”
If he continues to perform at this level, it will be interesting to see how their pursuit of Mbappé develops. Recently, a Brazilian pundit noted that the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners should forget about signing the Frenchman.
He encouraged Real Madrid to build their attack around the Brazilian trio, including the incoming Endrick.
