PSG’s Luis Enrique Eagerly Embraces Spain Homecoming Against Real Sociedad

On Monday, the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw paired Paris Saint-Germain with Real Sociedad. For the capital club, it’s a favorable result. However, don’t expect the squad to underestimate their opponent.

Manager Luis Enrique probably already knows what Real Sociedad will bring. Ahead of Wednesday’s clash against FC Metz, the Spanish boss was asked about the draw and shared his initial thoughts.

“I’m very happy because we’re going to Spain (smile),” Enrique told reporters on Tuesday (h/t Paris Fans). “It’s close to my hometown too. It’s a great team with very good results, good players, and a very good coach. It will, of course, be difficult.”

The first leg will be on Valentine’s Day at the Parc des Princes; meanwhile, the return leg will be at the Reale Arena. Nonetheless, going up against the Spanish side is a golden opportunity for PSG to get out of the round of 16 stage.

PSG has the chance to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2021. Nonetheless, with their checkered past of losing ties they should win, like Manchester United in 2019, nothing is certain with the French giants. Still, it’s the matchup that most supporters would’ve wanted.
