Neymar Jr. shocked the football world when he decided to leave FC Barcelona in 2017 for Paris Saint-Germain. Now that the Brazilian left the French capital this past summer, Luis Suarez believes it was the wrong move.
With Neymar’s European tenure ending a few months ago, his best years will likely be the three seasons shared with Suarez and Lionel Messi at FC Barcelona between 2014 and 2017. The attack, nicknamed the MSN, has a very high place in the pantheon of football history.
The Uruguayan striker recently confessed in an interview with Crank to having warned Neymar, with the help of Lionel Messi, that joining Paris was a mistake.
“It was a mistake to go to PSG,” Suarez told the outlet (h/t Foot Mercato). “If Ney wanted to be the best, he had to continue alongside Leo. We had to help and advise him, but in the end, he made his decision, which is respectable. He left a big void. The relationship between the two of us was spectacular. Off the pitch, we were on the same wavelength.”
In 2017, Neymar made a grand entrance into Paris from Barcelona for a staggering fee of €222 million. The Parisian fans had a mixed reaction towards him – sometimes adoring and sometimes ridiculing him.
This summer, he departed the capital to join Saudi Arabia and Al-Hilal. Neymar’s sole purpose in leaving Barcelona was to get out of Messi’s shadow, and while it’s harsh to say he failed. He didn’t achieve his goal of becoming the best player in the world and bringing his first Champions League to PSG.
