The relationship between Kylian Mbappé and manager Luis Enrique is at the center of discussion. When did this story begin? On Matchday 6 of the UEFA Champions League, the 25-year-old disagreed with Enrique’s late-game strategy.
Since then, there’s always been a story concerning the relationship between the two figures at PSG. The Spanish tactician addressed the matter again when speaking to reporters ahead of Wednesday’s home matchup against FC Metz.
“As always, a perfect relationship,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Canal Supporters). “We’re not a couple, but mainly because he’s the one who doesn’t want to (smile). I don’t know why you keep asking me this question. I’m very close to most of my players.
“We have always been very close with Kylian. He makes jokes [and] always laughs. I also like to laugh. We have a very good relationship with the rest of the players.”
The speculation surrounding Enrique and Mbappé is whether this will affect the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s decision regarding his future. Mbappé can sign a pre-contract with any club in a few days once the calendar turns to 2024.
It appears that the final decision is between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. The Spanish team’s deadline is January 15th, while the Ligue 1 team also strives to retain Mbappé.
Paris has assessed two project scenarios – one that includes Mbappé and one that excludes him. As a result, the decision of whether to continue at PSG is now in his hands.
