Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi could be on the verge of winning the highest honor in African football. The 25-year-old is one of three finalists for the CAF 2023 African Men’s Player of the Year award.
Hakimi and Morocco had a Cinderella run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup last year in Qatar, reaching the semifinals before losing to France. Afterward, the defender has excelled under new manager Luis Enrique.
The PSG star has scored four goals and registered four assists with the Ligue 1 giants so far this 2023-24 season.
Who are the other finalists competing against Achraf Hakimi?
Hakimi will have two opponents for the honor who also had stellar individual accomplishments in the last year. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are the other two finalists challenging Hakimi for the award.

Osimhen might be the biggest threat to Hakimi, considering that the Nigerian was a pivotal contributor to Napoli winning the 2022-23 Serie A title. Salah had another impressive year with Liverpool, despite Egypt not being at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It will be interesting to see which of the three players will win the award.
