Kylian Mbappé Unhappy with PSG’s Late-Game Strategy, Luis Enrique Responds

Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday night. While the capital club advanced to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, they could have pushed to finish first in the group.

Due to the 2-1 AC Milan win over Newcastle United, PSG got the outcome needed to move on from the group stage. However, RMC Sport reports that Kylian Mbappé wasn’t content with finishing in second place and protecting the draw.

According to the French media outlet, the 24-year-old was very annoyed with PSG’s attitude towards the end of the game. Manager Luis Enrique asked the players to calm down and go for a draw towards the end of the match after Milan took the lead.

A tactic that did not please Mbappé since he wanted to push for the win to get first place.

Nonetheless, during his postgame remarks, the Spanish manager addressed this report and explained why the team needed to protect the result and not go for the win in the final minutes.

“Mbappé’s frustation? It’s normal for the players to be frustrated,” Enrique said. “We had five chances to score, five chances. We would be a bit stupid to concede a goal in the 85th minute. If a player is frustrated, it’s up to me to manage this risk-taking as a coach. I have to manage tensions. That’s my role.”
