Paris Saint-Germain made a lot of changes this past summer transfer window. The capital club revamped its backline with two new additions to the group. One of the new faces is Lucas Hernandez.

Hernandez has played mainly as the left-back due to Nuno Mendes’ injury. While the 27-year-old’s move from Bayern Munich to the French capital wasn’t a pricey transfer tag.

According to reports, the Ligue 1 side paid Bayern Munich a fee of €40 million plus add-ons for the Frenchman. Hernandez suffered a torn ACL at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, so there was a risk in bringing him to Paris.

Grégory Paisley, a former PSG full-back, was very complimentary towards the Parisian player as he spoke for Le Parisien. He says he can play both positions at a very high level. Furthermore, he states that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is a safe bet for whatever role he plays.

“It’s complicated to make a choice because he is excellent and natural in both positions,” Paisley told the French media outlet (h/t Paris Fans). “When a player alternates between two positions, we often feel that he is more comfortable in the one where he has the most experience. But with him, everything is clear: he has the proper positioning, the correct body orientation, and the right reading of the game.

“I like him at center-back, of course; he has his benchmarks and a good recovery. But he also brings numerical superiority on the left and uses his left foot well. This is an advantage for Luis Enrique, who has the choice depending on the circumstances. Lucas is PSG’s best recruit. It’s a safe bet, whatever the position.”
