Paris Saint-Germain avoided facing the reality of dropping to the UEFA Europa League after Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty kick in stoppage time in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday night at the Parc des Princes.
However, many will ask, if the capital doesn’t play in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, how will it affect the Mbappé saga? The 24-year-old will become a free agent next June, and once the January transfer window opens, he can talk to any club over a pre-contract.
Why would Kylian Mbappé consider staying at PSG?
L’Équipe journalist Loic Tanzi spoke with talkSPORT and revealed the one aspect that will keep the Frenchman with his hometown club.
“I think he loves the club,” Tanzi told the English media outlet. “He loves Paris Saint-German because he’s a young man from here, from the area of Paris. If you asked me the question during the summer, I would say 100 percent [that] he would leave at the end of the year.
“And I’m not so sure now because I think winning the Champions League here in Paris is more important for him than winning the Champions League in Madrid, for example. I think winning just one Champions League here is more important than winning two or three in Madrid or in Liverpool, for example, because we know Liverpool wants him as well.”
Nonetheless, Mbappé and Co. control their destiny heading into the final Champions League group stage matchday. All PSG needs to do is win on the road against Borussia Dortmund. There are other combinations in which the Ligue 1 side advances, but the most straightforward way is by winning.
Still, it’s a challenge considering the French giants have yet to win on the road at this group stage, with losses at Newcastle and AC Milan. It will be interesting to see if Mbappé can put together a memorable performance despite the outside noise he might face soon.
why is LFC repeatedly linked with Mbappe, who wants over a million a week!!! Only teams who allegedly cook their books could afford him
