The Key Reason AC Milan Defeated PSG, According to Stefano Pioli

Paris Saint-Germain fumbled a chance to put themselves at the doorstep to clinch a UEFA Champions Round of 16 spot. The capital club fell 2-1 on Tuesday to AC Milan at San Siro.

The French giants opened the scoring after a Milan Skriniar header goal to make it 1-0. However, the Ligue 1 side gave up their early lead minutes later after a goal from Rafael Leão. AC Milan would get the deciding goal coming off the header of Olivier Giroud.

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli reacted to his team’s performance, highlighting their mental strength. The Italian club needed to win the game to keep any hopes of clinching a spot in the knockout stages alive.

“I expected this reaction because I know my players and my group well,” Pioli told reporters postgame (h/t Canal Supporters). “We played a fantastic match mentally.

“Mentally, we responded very well, and now we have to try to stay consistent because we still have a lot of work to do in the Champions League. From a technical point of view, PSG was a little stronger; we let them play and did what we had to do.”

PSG does face a challenging task in the final two matchdays. However, the capital club does control its destiny. As long as the French giants secure two wins, they punch their ticket to the next stage of the competition.
