Neymar’s 2023-24 club football season is likely ending. Any hopes of a possible return late in the season will not happen. Al-Hilal is reportedly contemplating the deregistration of the former Paris Saint-Germain star.
According to reports from Saudi Arabian outlet Arriyadiyah, Al-Hilal is considering deregistering Neymar for the ongoing Saudi Pro League (SPL) season. This decision stems from the club’s desire to create room for the recruitment of additional foreign players during the upcoming January transfer window.
The 31-year-old sustained the injury during a crucial World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay, leading to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. Neymar’s unfortunate injury has necessitated this strategic move, aligning with SPL rules that cap non-Saudi players at eight per squad.
Furthermore, the impending deregistration of Neymar would provide the club with the flexibility to enhance its squad with fresh European talent in critical positions. Al-Hilal’s manager, Jorge Jesus, wants to strengthen their defense by signing a foreign left-back.
Nonetheless, the Brazilian superstar will be welcomed back with open arms once he regains fitness ahead of the 2024-25 season.
