Report Reveals PSG’s Reaction to Omission from Messi’s Ballon d’Or Speech

Lionel Messi was back in Paris for the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony. After winning the award for the eighth time, Messi had to give a speech.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner hasn’t hidden his petty side after leaving the French giants this summer. Nonetheless, that continued while addressing the crowd, as he left out mentioning PSG.

L’Equipe’s Loïc Tanzi reported details of what transpired in the final weeks leading to his exit from the French giants. Still, Tanzi notes that Messi’s speech after winning the Ballon d’Or, in which he did not have a word for PSG, surprised no one at the club.

Furthermore, he reveals that many within PSG, at all levels, were not surprised about it. The French journalist also tells about the current relationship between the Ligue 1 side and Messi, which is strained.

When Messi won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, there was an expectation that he’d extend his stay. Regardless, with PSG crashing out of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 to Bayern Munich and barely holding off RC Lens to win Ligue 1, the capital club likely wanted change.
