Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé came in third for the Ballon d’Or, with Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland ahead of him. The question now surrounding the Frenchman is whether he can lift the award playing for PSG.
Well, the answer is yes, since Lionel Messi won the honor while playing last season with the French giants. Nonetheless, it isn’t stopping pundits from advising Mbappé to leave PSG to win the Ballon d’Or in the future. One of the pundits is Cadena SER’s Bruno Alemany.
“Messi was incredible,” Alemany said (h/t Le10Sport). “Mbappé, meanwhile, suffers from the fact that he plays in the French championship. But he is the big favorite to win the next Ballon d’Or.”
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will become a free agent after the 2023-24 season. Furthermore, he can begin talks over a pre-contract for the next campaign. The favorite to land the winger is Real Madrid. However, as this saga has shown, sometimes expect the unexpected.
It will be interesting to see what the forward eventually decides. Still, if he stays at PSG, that shouldn’t hurt his Ballon d’Or chances, considering outside of club football, Mbappé could win the UEFA Euro and gold medal at the summer Olympics.
