Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte and the Uruguayan national team picked up an impressive 2-0 win over Argentina in Buenos Aires.
Nonetheless, the 22-year-old was at the center of a viral moment. In the first half, Ugarte confronted Rodrigo De Paul of Atletico Madrid and made an inappropriate gesture afterward.
ESPN Uruguay spoke with Ugarte and asked about the incident. However, he decided not to detail what was said and why he used the NSFW gesture toward the 29-year-old.
“These are match things that remain there,” Ugarte told the outlet. “Now to enjoy and think about Bolivia. I am very happy. It was a highly complex match and on a tough pitch. We always try to push.
“Obviously, it was going to be very difficult because Argentina has a lot of quality, but we are always confident in what we do and convinced of the idea, which is very important to carry out. It was a round match .”
Meanwhile, De Paul noted that these situations tend to happen on the pitch. Furthermore, the midfielder wasn’t the only one reacting to the NSFW gesture. Former PSG star Lionel Messi was asked about the gesture and offered to remain quiet instead of saying what he honestly feels.
Argentina will look to have a bounce-back performance to close out this FIFA break. Messi and Co. will head to Rio de Janeiro for a matchup against Brazil.
Meanwhile, Ugarte and Uruguay will look to get six out of six points this FIFA international break. La Celeste will host Bolivia to the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
