PSG’s Kylian Mbappé Dodges Real Madrid and Summer Transfer Drama

This past summer, the Kylian Mbappé-Real Madrid transfer saga was a rollercoaster. The Paris Saint-Germain team welcomed back the player who had previously seemed to be leaving.

A few months into this 2023-24 season, Mbappé plays as though there was no summer drama. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner scored a hat-trick in PSG’s 3-0 win over Stade de Reim on Saturday at Stade Auguste Delaune. Afterward, he was asked whether he put the summer saga behind him.

“The most important thing for me was playing football,” Mbappé told Amazon Prime (h/t Paris Fans). “The rest I’ll leave to you. I think you do it well. I don’t want to talk to overhype things. There is already enough.”

Still, this drama will begin to surface once again. With the January transfer window opening in a few weeks, the Frenchman can sign a pre-contract with any team that begins next summer.

As a result, the chaotic information began this week with initial reports from Spain saying Real Madrid is ruling out signing the 24-year-old. However, reporting from France didn’t take long to deny that news, as the Spanish giants are still in the race for Mbappé.

Mbappé can sidestep the questions over his future for now, but eventually, the PSG star must decide. If the capital club advances to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, a decision might not come until their run ends.
