PSG’s Hakimi Eyes African Ballon d’Or: Can He Outshine Liverpool Star?

The African continent will be handing out its 2023 African Ballon d’Or award to the best player in the region. Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi is in the race for the continental trophy.

On December 11th, the African Football Confederation will hold its awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, presenting various trophies, including the highly esteemed African Ballon d’Or.

PSG’s right-back is in the race for the title of best African player, particularly thanks to his excellent start to the season with the capital club under new manager Luis Enrique.

In addition to the four goals and four assists in 14 matches in all competitions, Hakimi’s journey with Morocco in the World Cup in Qatar necessarily weighs on the player’s candidacy.

Here are the candidates that are battling Hakimi for the African Ballon d’Or

  • Sofyan Amrabat
  • Yassine Bounou
  • Youssef En-Nesyri
  • Riyad Mahrez
  • Victor Osimhen
  • Franck Zambo Anguissa
  • Vincent Aboubakar
  • Sadio Mané
  • Mohamed Salah

Next year, Hakimi could be in the race for the honor again. The Africa Cup of Nations will occur in January, and if he plays a significant role in Morocco claiming the trophy, he’ll be a favorite.
