PSG Talking Podcast: PSG Survive in Dramatic Fashion Against Newcastle

Paris Saint-Germain hosted Newcastle United F.C. with revenge on their minds, but instead, it was a night of wasted opportunities and controversy.

On this episode of PSG Talking, I’m joined by Eddie Razo, our long-time writer for PSGTalk.com, to discuss PSG’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle. We discuss the starting lineup, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s performance, and the decision that ultimately gifted PSG their only goal.

Up first, we examine Luis Enrique’s decision to start Danilo Pereira and Milan Škriniar at center-back and leave Vitinha on the bench in favor of Kang-In Lee. Did PSG’s lineup play a role in Newcastle’s fast start to the match?

Next, we discuss Donnarumma’s sloppy goaltending that led to Newcastle’s goal. His inability to hold onto a soft shot from distance allowed Alexander Isak to pounce on the rebound and score easily. Is it time for Luis Enrique to consider his options at goalie?

Throughout the match, but especially in the second half, PSG created chance after chance but failed to score. We share our thoughts on the wasted scoring opportunities and whether it might be time for a change up front.

Last but certainly not least, we get into the drama of the night, which saw VAR award PSG a penalty late in stoppage time. We comment on the media’s reaction and whether the official missed other incidents where PSG should have been awarded a penalty.

To wrap up the show, Eddie shares his thoughts on the upcoming January transfer window and what business PSG might do.
