PSG Must Learn from the Past to Land Real Madrid, Bayern Munich Target, Expert Says

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly has its eyes on Lille OSC wonderkid Leny Yoro. While the capital club must wait until the summer transfer window to pursue him, one expert believes PSG cannot let him slip away.

The French champions are not alone in monitoring the under-21 international defender. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in him.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson wrote in his weekly column for PSG Talk that the Ligue 1 side has been down this path before. The Parisians had a chance to sign a top young French defender but whiffed.

PSG must learn from past mistakes and land Leny Yoro

Johnson compares the current situation to when Real Madrid signed Raphael Varane in 2011 after his breakthrough at RC Lens.

“The situation is similar in many ways to the one seen back in 2011 when a young Raphael Varane broke through with LOSC’s northern rivals RC Lens and was snapped up by the Spanish giants,” Johnson wrote.

“Now with Manchester United, the former France international enjoyed immense success in Spain as well as with Les Bleus, including the FIFA 2018 World Cup and a run to the 2022 final in Qatar… Les Parisiens cannot risk losing out on another top defensive talent taking the first steps in what could be a storied career in Ligue 1.”

PSG is targeting French talent and probably wants to emulate what Bayern Munich does. The Bundesliga side usually attempts to secure the best German talent by raiding their league while sometimes going abroad.

It will be interesting to see if PSG can continue this trend of grabbing French talent. This past summer, they secured four players, and it looks like they don’t want to stop there.
