Ousmane Dembélé moved to Paris Saint-Germain this past summer transfer window. While the Frenchman is probably happy to be playing in France alongside teammates on Les Bleus, it wasn’t part of his initial plan.
The 26-year-old spent the last seven years of his football career with FC Barcelona. So, Dembélé wasn’t planning on leaving the Catalan side. However, the winger notes that PSG convinced him to depart the Spanish club.
“I told myself that I was going to stay in Barça,” Dembélé told the French media outlet L’Equipe. “It was the contacts with PSG that made me want to leave Barça. I wanted to sign for PSG. It was more PSG that changed my mind than simply leaving Barcelona.”

Lucas Hernandez recently revealed that Kylian Mbappé played a role in recruiting him to leave Bayern Munich to come to the French capital. Could the 24-year-old have done the same to Dembélé and convinced him to join PSG?
Eventually, the capital club landed three players from the French national team, and it’s hard not to believe that Mbappé was in their ear about a possible move to PSG.
With all these players, it will be interesting to see if PSG’s fortunes change in the UEFA Champions League with more top French talent.
