Paris Saint-Germain shifted their transfer policy this past summer transfer window. The Ligue 1 side wanted more French talent that could identify with the capital club. As a result, PSG sought Ousmane Dembélé.
The Parisians wanted Dembélé to likely fill the need on the wing as they moved away from star players like Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi. PSG needed to replace their production and went for the 26-year-old.
Dembélé spoke with L’Equipe, and one of the topics was his departure from FC Barcelona. The forward revealed behind-the-scenes details that led to him eventually joining PSG.
“How did I end up at PSG? PSG and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi had been interested for a long time,” Dembélé told the French media outlet. “Already, when I was in Dortmund, we started to have our first contacts. At that time, my goal was to play for Barça.
“There were contacts in 2019, too, then this summer. The president showed again that he really wanted to sign me. I then spoke with the coach and Luis Campos. I immediately liked the project.”

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner also discussed how he sees his performance a few months into the 2023-24 season. Dembélé has shown to be one of the creative engines of the attack despite the numbers not showing it.
While he does have zero goals, the Frenchman isn’t worried about his production. He feels that as the months pass, his top-level skills will begin to show.
